At Crestwood Manor, Seniors Stay Safe While Enjoying a Maintenance-Free Lifestyle
While there is still much uncertainty around the coronavirus — such as when a vaccine will become available and who will have access to it — one thing remains clear for now: maintaining social distancing is one of the best ways to prevent contracting the illness.
For those for whom infections can pose life-threatening consequences, particularly seniors, that means continuing to shelter in place and limiting contact with others. But that can be isolating and leave older people without access to many essentials, with the additional burden of having to maintain a home during a pandemic.
One of the many advantages of living in a continuing care retirement community is the closed campus arrangement, where residents’ lives can continue as usual while staff ensure they remain safe and informed. At Crestwood Manor, part of the Springpoint Senior Living family of CCRC or Life Plan communities in Manchester Township, residents enjoy the many services and amenities of a maintenance-free and “active adult” lifestyle. Located just minutes from New Jersey beaches and attractions, there is an abundance of activities in the area including shopping, golfing, hiking, fishing, boating and outdoor wineries, and residents can be as active or laid back as they choose.
Finding a Home During Difficult Times
During these challenging times, the staff and residents have pulled together to look out and care for each other. Whether they are checking in on neighbors with phone calls or spreading positivity throughout the community by placing rocks with hand painted designs and inspirational words in the garden areas, the staff and residents have come together as a family to ensure each other’s safety.
To keep residents informed of the latest community news, staff broadcast videos produced by a resident that feature community updates from the senior leadership team for viewing on in-room TVs. Chaplain Linda Goeddel provides virtual prayer services and records a weekly meditation session for in-home viewing. While eating in the main dining room or the more casual bistro is currently on hold, hot and delicious, chef-prepared meals are delivered to each resident’s front door.
“I looked at seven different communities and found Crestwood Manor to be the friendliest and most open,” said resident John Maffei. “One of the advantages of Crestwood Manor is that they have all sorts of programs that are enjoyable. I keep busy, helping with various events, offering computer tech support, running the bingo computer, doing chair yoga and taking drawing lessons from a resident artist.”
As part of the Springpoint network of communities, all responses to the challenges posed by COVID-19 at Crestwood have been guided by a dedicated health care team, with combined hundreds of years of medical expertise, in compliance with federal, state and local health officials. Some measures imposed include:
- All independent living visitors must fill out contact tracing forms and undergo a temperature check.
- Employees and assisted living residents are tested weekly and masks are required throughout the facilities at all times.
- Staff members use advanced cleaning methods throughout the community to mitigate risk of contamination.
- All employees are required to quarantine and test negative before returning to work following illness.
- Crestwood Manor staff is fully stocked with a PPE supply to address future needs.
You’ll Never Be Bored at Crestwood Manor
Resident Karen Bokert is a lifelong artist and also a certified chair yoga instructor who said she and her husband have found a community of like-minded people who embrace a healthy lifestyle and artistic pursuits. “We are so delighted with the openness to new ideas we have found at Crestwood Manor, and the willingness to have new residents share their talents and interests with everyone,” she said.
Offering a full continuum of care, Crestwood Manor is a pet-friendly community that offers beautifully designed and upgraded senior apartments including 260 spacious, independent living apartments, featuring modern open floor plan models and a 64-bed skilled nursing center providing quality care and innovative senior rehabilitation programs and therapies.
Prior to the pandemic, residents enjoyed living their best lives with the peace of mind that should their needs change, they would be covered. But these challenging times call for heightened security for seniors and the staff at Crestwood Manor provides a safe and healthy environment with care and compassion.
“I cannot begin to express my heartfelt appreciation for everyone who is taking care of our needs,” said resident Gloria Hassett. “The dedication of all of the staff is amazing.”
